In 2023 alone, 1172 lives were lost to drugs and 1277 to alcohol in Scotland - a staggering statistic representing the highest death rates in Europe. This crisis touches countless lives, impacting families and communities throughout our beloved nation. Through every hand-poured luxury candle we create, we aim to shed light on this pressing issue, fostering compassion, conversation, and change in the face of this national pandemic.

My Story
My name is Ross, and I'm originally from Aberdeen. For most of my life, I struggled with mental health challenges that led me down a road of addiction, destruction, and despair. Despite countless attempts to get my life back on track - including two stays in rehab - I kept slipping into the same painful cycle.
In 2018, I discovered a unique long-term recovery community in Northern Italy called San Patrignano. I spent three and a half years there, and it was in that time I learned the value of community, connection, and finding a sense of purpose.

When I returned to Scotland, I felt called to do something about the addiction crisis here, to raise awareness of an issue that affects not just individuals, but their families, partners, and communities.
That’s how Nera Luxury Candles was born. I launched this small Scottish business with purpose at the end of 2024 with a mission to blend luxury with meaning, and to help break down the stigma that still surrounds addiction and mental health. Each candle is a reminder that even in the darkest moments, light can still shine through.
